Maroon Bells, White River National Forest, Colorado: When it comes to the ideal of the Colorado Rockies, Maroon Bells and the symmetry of their reflection in Maroon Lake at sunrise are hard to match. Establishing my location on a dark, fall morning, and then working to record the image at the ideal time, I was truly surprised to find myself not alone when I began packing up my gear. Over 50 photographers had joined me by the time the light had finished painting the scene for me. In summer, the area is filled with climbers and traffic jams.
